28 Jul Best Little Museum
Tyler Green over at MAN posted about his favorite less considered museums and I’m happy to report OCMA was included. I would like to add one more for consideration.
The Laguna Beach Art Museum is one of my favorites for a several reasons which include:
1. I’m a sucker for an underdog
2. Their doing great shows
3. Curator of Contemporary Art Tyler Stallings truly supports the local art scene by taking chances on OC based artists.
I understand Tyler Green at MAN is a fan of Clyfford Still and this Saturday they open the show While Pollock Was Sleeping: Bay Area Abstract Expressionism. This show will give you a chance to see the influence Clyfford Still had when he came out to the bay area to teach.
I’m also very much looking forward to the Richard Pettibone Retrospective that LAM helped organize and will be traveling here in Spring 2006.
Like I said small/scrappy museum. Great shows.
P.S. Tyler we try and keep Long Beach Airport a secret around here. Lets keep that one under our hat. It’s gotten too crowded as it is….
