27 Nov Art Weekend
Ran up to LA on Saturday to try and work off all of that food I had eaten over the last few days. Started at the Margritte show at LACMA. Very good but very crowded. Should have waited a little while. I like the idea of a lot of people at an art event. I just don’t want to be there when it happens. Next stop was the Street Signs & Solar Ovens : Socialcraft in Los Angeles show at the Craft & Folk Art Museum. I went because OC’s own instigators Finishing School were in the show but was pleasantly surprised by the space and the show. Go if you haven’t been. Next stop was to the Hammer to catch Office alumni Christine Nguyen’s large wall piece, I’ve been remiss in getting up there. I’ve collected Christine since she was an undergrad so it makes you very happy to see her progression. Plus she’s one of the nicest people you’ll meet. The surprise of the day was the Wolfgang Tillmans show at the Hammer. I wasn’t expecting to like it but I left planning to go back and spend more time at the show. Much better than expected. Next stop was Chinatown to make the rounds. Not much to report there, was actually pretty disappointing although you should go see CSU Fullerton’s Eileen Cowin at Fringe Exhibitions.
