ACME Exclusive

I don’t know if you caught last sundays Calendar article about local heavyweight art dealer Robert Gunderman of ACME fame. If you didn’t you should, it’s a good read. Anyway, what stood out for me in particular was that he went to Huntington Beach High School. Anyway, he was there when I was a freshman. I don’t remember him from school and I ran around in the punk scene during the same time the article said he was involved and I don’t remember him from that either. (there weren’t too many of us in the area back then) I did however remember his first partner Leonard Bravo, he was only a year older.

That being said the OC Art Blog is proud to bring you exclusive high school yearbook photos of one of our top local dealers. Hopefully another HB based gallerist reaches his level of success (me!). Thanks for setting the bar high Robert, HB is proud.

In all fairness here is one of me. This was taken in 81 when I was fifteen during my punk rock days (do I qualify for old school?). They threw me out of HB High School shortly after. (let’s keep that our little secret)

I apreciated your tip of the hat to Robert Gunderman and ACME Gallery. You’re right, it was an enjoyable article. I suspect that with your attitude toward the artists you support, you’re on your way to becoming HB’s next successful gallerist. Not that you aren’t already, in a somewhat more modest sense.

P.S. How could a 15 year old with such a sweet face get kicked out of school?

Hey all, if are Acme lovers like I am and love their work, you may want to take a peak down the street, come Sept 12 they might not have the best show.
I was at Ace gallery (not a big fan of) and walked 2 minutes East on Wilshire Blvd and ran into a gallery putting up some amazing work. They let me in to take a peak and I could not believe where painting as gone. Wonderful paintings that just float in canvas and outside of canvas, is the only way I could explain it. I do not know when the opening is, I hope Sept 12th, but I did get the artist name…Kimber Berry. If you love contemporary and completely abstract work…. a must see. Sorry…no name was on the outside of the gallery, but boy I think they will give Acme a run for the money they keep hanging work like this.
    Gary.
