This weekend is first Saturday and the beginning of the new art season. Buckle your seat belts I'm sure it will be a wild ride. I'm sure i've missed some so just head to Santa Ana: Tina Shurts opens @ Assunta Fox Gallery. I've seen some images of the new work. Looks like a good one. Actually my Mom tipped me off on this one. Attention artists and art fans, there's a new artwalk in long beach held every first friday over in the Bixby area of Long Beach. It seems that this one might be a little more organic than the repeated attempts to turn the "east village" into an arts destination. Mom says she'll buy dinner at Four Olives Cafe so it looks like I'll be checking it out soon. ...

Couple things I wanted to mention regarding The Office. First off our next show will open on Sept. 15th and it will be a great one. Curated by Chloe Flores and Autumn Beck formerly of enView 70 07 will feature a several great artists including 2002 Whitney Biennial participant Seth Price and 2007 Bienal de Sao Paulo participant and OCMA alumni Yucef Merhi. I don't talk about it much here for some reason but Mrs. OC Art Blog and I have been fans of Long Beach's Museum of Latin American Art for some time. One of our favorite artists in our collection Mario Perez was discovered through the museum. I found out recently that their very fine Director Gregorio Luke has resigned after 10 years of service and guiding the museum through its recent expansion. Is the end to the HOT art market of the last several years getting close? The stock market has had some blows, the housing market is in serious crash mode, credit is getting tight and the hedgies are starting to take a beating. Rumor has it a couple of Culver City galleries are closing up shop and the smart money is starting to sit on the sidelines. Could be an interesting fall art season this year...

Continuing the benefit theme. This Saturday night Amorviejo Art Gallery will be presenting their Side Walk Angel Project. The event will begin with the performance "One Sign at a Time" from 7 to 7:30pm and the evening will conclude with the auction of "The City's Angel" a painting by the Living City Artists. All proceeds from the sale will go to benefit Mercy House. Marlene Gammelgaed, Chela Banuelos and Joseph Baneulos will be showing in the gallery. ...

On August 22nd Chemers Gallery in Tustin will host artist Sam Abrams-Widdicombe and all proceeds from the show and then some will benefit the Orange County Ronald McDonald House. The opening will run from 5-8pm. ...
