This Friday is your last chance to catch Los Carozones at Amorviejo Gallery. The closing party will run from 5-8pm and will feature live folk music. Consider it your Friday night art fix. ...

Thought I'd let you all know about an interesting new site that's geared toward artists. I recently discovered Uber a social platform site geared toward the artistically inclined, primarily bands and visual artists. I also understand this site is the brainchild of 2004 Whitney Biennial artist and LA local Glenn Kaino. I think its a great idea to have a site where artists can store and share their personal media...

The Office is pleased to present Sexpectations by Mindy Cherri with a new video work by Joanna Grasso in our project space. There will be a reception for the artists Sat. the 24th from 6-9pm The new work presented in Sexpectations is the artist’s response to what is going on around her and within her. Each piece has become an exploration of domesticity and relationships, specifically the secrets we have within relationships and the fragile nature of relationships. The artist finds it fascinating how conversations...

Tonight the Greenleaf Gallery at Whittier College opens a show by local painter Marie Thibeault. Marie who teaches painting at CSULB is very well regarded in local circles so I'm very interested in seeing this show. There will be an artist talk starting at 6pm followed by the opening which will run from 7-9pm. Go to the website for the address. ...

So I'm right in the middle of trying to aquire a painting by Amy Sillman who I personally think is one of the best and brightest painters working today and I think things are going smoothly when the gallerist out of the blue sends me an email where she apologizes and says unfortunately she has sold the painting. I'm like "What!!" I was bummed out for week I figured now that Amy was on the cover of Artforum it was going to be pretty hard...

Attended the Laguna Art Museum Auction on Saturday night and had a great time. There were many friends there and the event looked to be very successful for the museum. There were a couple surprises, some hot artists didn't get any bids and some savvy collectors stole some great works (the benefit of these types of auctions). I'm proud to report the Office alumni did quite well. Some bad photos follow: LAM Curator Jacqueline Bunge Artist Jeff Koegel with work Artist Mindy Cherri Artist...

Artscene just announced that tickets are now available for the Artscene: 25, Los Angeles Art Awards dinner. The event will be held April 18th at LACMA and the evening will consist of an awards dinner and various panel discussions. You will also have a chance to vote for who you think is the most important artist in LA during the last 25 years and who you think is a rising star in LA. Should be a great night. ...

The big art event this weekend is the annual Laguna Art Museum Auction. The auction will run from 6-10pm and tickets are $125. You can go to the website to view some of the works available and get tickets. I don't plan on leaving empty handed. Hope to see you there. ...

On Saturday night I met up with Chloe Flores and Autumn Beck the dynamic duo of enView Gallery for dinner at Memphis and to hit a few of the openings that were going on that night. It had been a while since I'd done the first Saturday in Santa Ana and I have to say there was a real good energy all night. There were a lot of people out and about and there was a great variety of art to see. Fun was had...

Tonight I had the great pleasure to visit the home of LA based legendary collector Diana Zlotnick. In this day and age when actually having an experience with art is getting trumped by the stampede to keep up with the joneses and make sure the right names are in the collection, it's very refreshing to meet a collector who still values artist relationships and the actual experience that a viewer can have with art. I won't go into all the details about Diana's background...

Last week Will Swaim editor of the OC Weekly since it's inception in 1995 resigned and now I just discovered that Rebecca Schoenkopf aka Commie Girl has resigned effective immediately. This is quite a blow to the local art community. Say what you will about the Weekly, they were the only local paper that consistently visited and wrote about local art exhibits (on a weekly basis). I'm especially bummed because the Weekly, via Rebecca has always shown support (even when she didn't like the...

Mrs. OC Art Blog and I ran over to Cypress College tonight to catch the opening of Electrosthetic curated by artist Paul Paiement. There were a couple of my favorite people and Office alumni in the show (Naida Osline & Amandine Piomelli) so I had to check it out. I was telling Mrs. OC Art Blog at dinner after the opening that I really liked the change of pace of going to an opening on a Wednesday night. Plus it's a great show. Check it...

This Friday is the opening of the annual free for all, otherwise known as Centered on the Center at the Huntington Beach Art Center. This is the show where all kinds of artists are hung salon style throughout the galleries. I have actually discovered an artist or two (including Christine Nguyen, most recently shown at the Hammer) at this annual show so it is definitely worth a look. I think the opening runs from 7-10pm. Call the center for more details. ...
