I haven't done a "what I've been collecting" blog in awhile so here ya go. Earlier this year I decided to pretty much buy local. Although I picked up some small pieces from artists like Uta Barth, Vik Muniz & Tim Hawkinson most of my purchases have been from local artists who I think are doing great work. In the news these days you can't go a week without seeing some new article on how HOT the art market is. Yes its true this market...

Add another holiday show to the list. On Dec. 7th Sarah Bain Gallery will open their annual holiday show were they will show smaller works by their stable of artists. Should be a great opportunity for the beginning collector. ...

Tired of the mall? Looking for the special something for that special someone. Why not a piece of original art?? Over the next couple of weeks in OC there will be plenty of opportunity to pick up a unique gift for that unique friend of yours. J. Flynn Gallery opens Merry Artmas on Dec. 16th. All art will be priced under $500 and it will be cash and carry. For those friends of yours with darker tastes this Saturday, Night Gallery will open A Dark...

Ran up to LA on Saturday to try and work off all of that food I had eaten over the last few days. Started at the Margritte show at LACMA. Very good but very crowded. Should have waited a little while. I like the idea of a lot of people at an art event. I just don't want to be there when it happens. Next stop was the Street Signs & Solar Ovens : Socialcraft in Los Angeles show at the Craft & Folk Art...

I don't do too much posting about L.A. gallery shows but in this case there is a OC connection. Tom Jancar of Jancar Gallery actually lives in OC but decided it was probably a smarter move to open his new gallery in L.A. if he wanted to sell any art. This is a smart man. Anyway, Mr. Jancar has a long history in L.A. opening his first gallery 26 years ago and showing artists like Louise Lawler and Richard Prince, so it would probably...

Ran down to LAM today to catch the first lecture for the current OsCene show. Great panel. I really enjoy artist lectures and try to hit them when I can. I find I tend to like them much better than most art classes I've sat through. Highly recommended. Some photos follow: The panel from L to R: Mindy Cherri, R. Hong-An Troung, Ann Phong & Alvin Gregorio Curator Jacqueline Bunge Alvin Gregorio in front of his installation Mindy Cherri discussing her work Mindy Cherri's...

The first lecture associated with the current OsCene at LAM kicks off this weekend. On Sunday starting at 1pm moderator Jacqueline Bunge will host a panel of OsCene artists featuring Mindi Cherri, Alvin Gregorio, Ann Phong and R. Hong-An Troung who will discuss their work which is inspired by complicated family relationships, Immigration, and cultural differences. ...

It's a sad day for the Orange County art scene. I found out yesterday that Tyler Stallings will be leaving his Chief Curator position at the Laguna Art Museum to take the Gallery Director position at the newly expanded Sweeney Gallery at the University of California Riverside. Tyler has had a major impact on all things art in Orange County for a number of years now and he will be missed. I'm already a big fan of UCR's California Museum of Photography but now...

Tonight OC based painter Jeff Koegel opens his show at Gallery C. The opening will run from 7-10pm so if you have a chance get out there and support the home team. ...

Curators Carol Cheh and Kristen Raizada were kind enough to forward me a link to some photos of their current show at Gatov Gallery on campus at CSULB titled Captive: Animal Imagery in Contemporary Art. You have until next Tuesday to catch the show or just head over to their flickr site to see some images. They will be adding more. ...

I sort of forgot, but this blog is 2 years old this month. Happy B-Day OC Art Blog! ...

Mrs. OC Art Blog was in San Francisco this weekend so she was able to catch OC based painting powerhouse Sherie' Franssen's show @ Dolby Chadwick. You can read Kenneth Baker's review of the show Here. Stay tuned for her much anticipated solo show at the HB Art Center in the spring. Some photos follow: ...

Well it looks like I got buy-in from Mrs. OC Art Blog. Next June we will be attending the Venice Biennale, Art/Basel (Switzerland) and Documenta 12. Hopefully I'll be able to blog it all. Very excited. ...

Thank you again to everybody that came out to support the Imaginary Scientists and the space. We all appreciate it! The show was great and a lot of fun to do. Some bad photos follow: Imaginary Scientists in deep thought The infamous Dupliporter A peak into the black hole Someone Dupliported their kid...

It's that time again. The Office is pleased to be hosting Simple Cell by the League of Imaginary Scientists starting this Saturday night from 6-9pm. There will be a performance during the opening and plenty of Space food to go around. Hope to see you there! Simple Cell is an exhibition of creative scientific research, featuring a unique view into a black hole.  Leading imaginary scientists have pooled their resources to open a brief portal to the super-massive black hole, Q0906+6930, commonly known as Blazar. ...

This Myspace thing is already paying off. I just discovered a great little concept called Phantom Galleries LA. It seems they take vacant storefront windows and hold temporary art installations. Looks like they have done a few around town. I might be late to this but what a great idea. Also looks like they are always looking for artists and curators for new projects. So get on it folks. Plus they wanted to be my friend. Major points for that. ...

Ran over to Orange Coast College today to meet with Lisa Bloomfield and see her current show up at the art dept. The work is great and I very much am looking forward to having Lisa at The Office next year. Some photos follow and stay tuned for more. Lisa Bloomfield The future OCC art gallery. It's going to be a nice one. ...

OC based painter (not Portland) and Office alumni Sherie' Franssen opens her show at Dolby Chadwick in SF this Thursday and Kenneth Baker from the SF Chronicle gave an early thumbs up. If you're up that way be sure to catch the opening and say hi to Sherie'. Mrs. OC Art Blog will be there Friday so I should have images to post eventually. ...
