After dropping work at Oneleaf yesterday I ran over to the California Museum of Photography to catch the show Create and Be Recognized: Photography on The Edge. I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is the best show in the area currently. Do yourself a favor and make the drive and check it out. Buy the book for the show too, outstanding. C.T. McClusky Alexandre Lobanov August Walla Joe "40,000" Murphy Henry Darger. There's lots more so go see it. ...

Damn I'm tired. Mark Dutcher and David Ross came down from LA for a Saturday night tour of the OC art scene and to meet up with their friend Sandow Birk. We ran all over the place and had a great time. I think they were impressed with the level of activity down here. Nice job people. Anyway here are some photos: First stop was the Shed to catch Jocelyn Schneider Foye's performance, Wrestling with Clay. It was a good time. OC Weekly writer Rebecca...

There will be photo work by none other than Henry Darger in this show. Looks like a must see. Thanks for the heads-up Mark. ...

Staying on the Surf Art theme here is a great article on the surging surf art market. They even quote Pat Tobin and Laguna Art Museum Director Bolton Colburn. Also featured is one of the hotter galleries in OC right now, the Surf Gallery. Thanks Marc. Image: John Severson ...

Ran down to Long Beach tonight to catch the Maureen Shields show at Enview. Very much enjoyed it and it was nice to see Autumn as always. After that I cruised over to the outdoor event now known as Last Saturday. Had fun and even bought something. Also ran into a few people that I haven't seen in awhile and that was cool. Definitely plan on going back. Some photos follow: Maureen Shields Enview Co-Director Autumn Beck & Artist C. Finley. ...

Looks like there kicking it up a notch in the East Village Arts district in Long Beach. This Saturday Last Saturday will be taking place. Looks like they shut down Linden and open it up to artists booths, etc. Looks like there will be a few bands playing too. Get all the info on the website and if you want to show your art, it looks like a good opportunity for $25 bucks. Does that mean they'll still be doing the second Saturday artwalk?? ...

I don't know if you caught last sundays Calendar article about local heavyweight art dealer Robert Gunderman of ACME fame. If you didn't you should, it's a good read. Anyway, what stood out for me in particular was that he went to Huntington Beach High School. Anyway, he was there when I was a freshman. I don't remember him from school and I ran around in the punk scene during the same time the article said he was involved and I don't remember him from...

Did anybody else notice the dissatisfaction with the current art blog world expressed in Artnet's Predictions for 2006? Example: Barry Neuman, art dealer: I think it's a safe bet that there will be 50 to 60 new and bona fide (i.e., seriously authored by qualified people) art world blogs by the end of the year. Why is this significant? In some cases, the blogs may speed up the infotainment machine that's impacting the actual, hands-on, real-world art scene, locally and internationally. I guess that means nobody currently...
