The news is coming out early on the big December art fairs. Line-up's can be found here and here. OC Art Blog Prediction: $75 oil, rising interest rates, housing bubble burst, lots of articles on the HOT art market/collecting art this year only means that late December is when the "Where did the art buyers go?" articles start coming out. Look for Scope Houston in 2006...

Being in HB nudged between Long Beach and OC I take notice of what local schools around here are active in the local art scene and I would have to say hands down Cal State Long Beach is the winner. I run into those students everywhere. I wish I could say the same about some other OC schools. Anyway, why don't we all return the favor and go support their little shindig this weekend called the Greater LA MFA Exhibition. Greater LA MFA features approximately...

Yesterday I passed on the surf and headed up north to meet Mark Dutcher at his Culver City studio. Had the opportunity to see his new work and hang out and talk for a while. I'm very excited to report that we'll get a chance to see some of this new work in the OC early next year at The Office. More on that later. After leaving Mark's I headed over to MOCA to catch the Basquiat show. The interview film downstairs is a must...

Hit the beach today then went over to the artists village for lunch and caught Exquisite Electric and the Bird Show at GCAC. Both shows were good. For those of you that are suffering the August art withdrawls I wanted to point you to a local program on our local NPR station called Pacific Drift. You might remember me mentioning them back in January. I caught a couple of re-broadcasts last night. One was a piece on Vincent Price and his Art Collecting legacy and the other was a walk through of the recent Hammer show, Thing. Great stuff. They have many podcasts available on their website. The show airs on Sunday nights. Check...

Received a notice today about another Surf and Skate show with some solid corporate sponsorship and thought I would do my community service for the day and point all you aspiring gallerists/artists to a great article on the Art of Selling Out. Just replace musician with artist/gallery. Remember, all you hipsters are quite the demographic and there's some cold hard cash to be made out there...
