Had lunch in Laguna Beach today and while down I got a sneak peak at the Laguna Art Museum's next show While Pollock Was Sleeping: Bay Area Abstract Expressionism from The Blair Collection. Even though most of the work was still wrapped in plastic it looked great. I'm really looking forward to this show. I also dropped into Peter Blake Gallery and he had a really good show up featuring a couple of painters I wasn't familiar with, Jeff Peters and Geoffrey Kruger. If you...
Kirsten at Roq la Rue posted on her blog that she likes Mika Ninagawa, I do too. We got 3 pieces at the Armory show a couple years back. It's actually a funny story, Mrs. OC Art Blog and I were interviewed by Japanese TV after making the purchase because they were in town to do a documentary on Ms. Ninagawa. I guess she is huge in Japan. She is currently represented by Tomio Koyama Gallery ( Nara/Murakami) but I don't think she has been picked...

This Saturday Evita: Up Close and Personal opens at the Bowers. Normally I would be sure to miss something like this but I am going to Argentina early next year so I might have to take a look. Get a historical perspective kinda thing. (image, Juan Carlos Pallarols, Replica of Death Mask of Eva Peron, 1952.) ...
I was going to try and and give a more detailed description but it's late and I'm tired and I'm not good at it anyway. So all I really have to say is on Saturday I caught the Tim Hawkinson show at LACMA and it's just one of those shows where you walk around and just get lost...
Has anybody else noticed the growing class warfare tone that is starting to bubble up in the art world?? See recent posts by Charlie Finch at Artnet and Jeff Jahn at Port. Maybe this is just the way patronage looks in our times...
This Saturday after running through LA we made sure to stop at Enview Gallery in Long Beach to catch the opening reception for artist Robert Fontenot. I had known of this space for a little while but this was my first visit and I was quite impressed, both with the space and the work of Robert Fontenot. Enview as I understand it is a collaborative effort between Autumn Beck and Chloe Flores and their mission is to have 2 month shows featuring various local artists....
Sorry for the lack of posts recently but after the London Tragedy I just wasn't feeling it. As a matter of fact I started to slip into one of my " I need to move to another planet" depressions. So needless to say, drastic action had to be taken and the only way I know how to get out of one of those depressions is to go look at lots of art. So I grabbed the cat, some of the neighborhood kids and Mrs. OC...
