10 Nov Snapshot @ sixspace
It’s a fact of life that if you are an artist/collector/curator/gallerist/artfan and you live in Orange County, you will be making frequent trips to LA. So one of the goals of this blog is to list events/openings that I think are worth the drive north.
First off is Snapshot @ sixspace:
sixspace is proud to present an exhibition that highlights the work of five young photographers working in Los Angeles. Snapshot provides just that: a "snapshot" look into the important work being created in Los Angeles by artists who are further exploring and advancing the aesthetic and conceptual elements in the medium of photography. The artists: Heather Cantrell, Elizabeth Daniels, Steve Diet Goedde, Andy Mueller, and Lori Frances Schindler are each examining images in different ways via landscapes, portraits, and abstract visuals.
November 13 – December 4, 2004
Reception: Saturday, November 13 from 7-10 pm
Added Bonus:
It doesn’t look like any of the featured artists attended Yale’s Photo MFA program…..so naked people getting all vulnerable and stuff should be kept to a minimum.
Not that I have anything against naked people…..

Posted at 09:53h, 10 NovemberAlthough my comment exists outside the scope of the Yale MFA Photo comment, I did happen to see a exhibition by a so-called artist who recently graduated from the aforementioned institution which on his bio actually lists heroin addiction in the timeline. Whats wrong with this? In an age of infatuation with Terry Richardson, where religion trumps science, where painting is graphic design, I guess nothing….

Posted at 00:09h, 29 NovemberI think it’s the overwhelming desire for credibility, to have done something “real”.
Heroin addiction is a little too easy cuz if you did it on purpose then you weren’t really an addict were you?
Dumb ass “artists”, always trying to get something for nothing.
