Well I’ve been called out by Jessica over at Insurgent Muse to participate in the Caesar’s Bath meme going around. The deal is you list five things that people in your circle of friends or peer group are wild about, but you can’t really understand the fuss over. To use the words of Caesar (from History of the World, Part I), "Nice, Nice. Not thrilling…but nice."

Here ya go and don’t get mad at me:

San Francisco Art Scene: Don’t get me wrong, I love the city, but the art scene is starting to wear. Don’t get me wrong again, It’s probably the most influential city going right now, go to any MFA open studio currently and you’ll see the influence; the slacker drawing, the graffiti inspired street art, the illustration heavy, haphazardly hung work, the late 90’s mission school influence is everywhere and all the young work out there is starting to look the same. The first young art kid to actually practice serious craft and put their work in a nice frame is going to be considered cutting edge….we won’t know what to do with them.

Los Angeles: Bergamont, Chinatown, Downtown Arts District and now Culver City. How long are we going to have to hear about the next hot art center in LA. Someday the art being made in LA will actually take the front seat. While LA argues over art pub’s and art centers, museum Director’s and whether to have an art fair or not, Orange County will quietly become the new LA….

Blogs: They’re a pain in the ass to to try and keep half way interesting….i’m trying folks….and thanks for all the links that have directed people to the site, especially to the King of all Art bloggers, Tyler over at MAN.

iPods: The Rio Carbon is a much better piece of equipment. Avoid group think…

Art Fairs: Someone will get smart and try and put together more regionally focused events who’s function will be to educate and develop the local art collecting community in the city/area they are in, rather than hope for one time pops here and there.
