24 Sep Paul Paiement/San Francisco
Mrs. OC Art Blog and I ventured up to San Francisco this weekend to catch the opening of a new commission by Paul Paiement hosted by husband and wife gallery owners Heather Marx & Steve Zavattero. We also caught the Olafur Eliasson show at SFMOMA and the Dark Matters show and the Joachim Schmid exhibit at Yerba Buena. Trevor Paglen who was included in the Dark Matters show is my new favorite artist. I don’t think I’ve seen spine-chilling art like that in a long time. There ‘s been some talk recently about post 9/11 art and who has been making the strongest statements. I would like to throw Trevor Paglen’s name in the hat. Our post 9/11 world is secretive and threatening — and Paglen’s art scares the shit out of me. Paul’s opening went great and we enjoyed the Eliasson show, but Mrs. OC Art Blog thought it had a fun "wow factor" but that it was probably better suited for the local science and discovery museum.
