10 Mar Peter Blake Mafia
The legend and power of the Peter Blake mafia continues to grow in the puff piece by Daniella Walsh in this month’s Riviera. Peter deserves a lot of credit for what he’s been able to pull off down there in Laguna but I might take issue with a couple of statements in the piece. Primarily the use of "cutting-edge" to describe the stable of artists. All very, very talented artists but cutting edge? Compared to? And the statement that Peter is bringing artists down from LA. There are many other fine OC art spaces that are bringing artists down and have been bringing artists down for sometime, international artists included. What I would like to see next from Peter, if he’s serious about promoting OC art aboard is some art fair participation. Selling to a captive audience and the occasional tourist in Laguna, and taking your show on the road are two different things. And I believe Peter knows as well as anybody the old adage; location, location, location. Let’s be real, Santa Ana wouldn’t be as kind. And in all fairness, this was written for the Laguna clientele, who wouldn’t know cutting edge if it bit them on the ass.

Posted at 11:20h, 17 Maypeter blake is not who you think he is…he reinvented himself and took the name of a well known british artist…he was born with another name and changed it…
his former occupation was as a host in a laguna beach restaurant…
his knowledge about art is scant…he is just a salesman…and a self promotor…
