First Saturday is approaching so that means Santa Ana is going to be the hot spot this weekend. All the regular stuff will be going on, so no changes there, but I did want to point out one particular show you should not miss. Jacqueline Bunge who is the exceptional Curatorial Assistant at LAM and some of her associates are throwing a one night art event that I'm sure is going to be the place to be Saturday night. What: Oral Fixation A Group Exhibition Where: 202...

It seems some good things are happening to good people. Next up is Natasha Caruana who you may remember from this kinda recent post. Natasha shot me an email this morning to inform me her recent book project Lying Still: Portraits of the Other Woman has been added to the British Library collection, The Woman's Library collection and the Centre Pompidou collection in Paris. Wow! So here's the exciting part. This project will be making it's US debut here at the Office next spring. So any of...

The scoop from the NY Times. Here's the list. Looks they're going international. Need some time to see how many Californian's made it. Should probably just check with Blum & Poe. I'm sure there will be lots of discussion on this after Miami. Except those excited galleries that got someone in. I'm sure they'll be shouting it to the passing crowds. Interesting timing. ...

Congrats to Zoe Strauss for her inclusion in the 2006 Whitney Biennial! You may remember me bringing her up Here. Go check out her blog. She tells the story of how she found out. Very cool. ...

Interesting counterpoint from Todd at FTF. Personally, I like the idea of people...

Art Fag City posted a great review of the Brian Jungen show at the New Museum I discussed in the earlier post. Pictures included. ...

Lost in all the ABMB din of the last couple of days was this little tidbit. It's nice to see the LA glitterati & Gov. Officials pull a no-show. Good luck with those LA vs NYC comparisons now...

A couple of other stops we made in NY I forgot to mention that will probably end up on the year end top ten list were the Egon Schiele show at the Neue Galerie and the Van Gogh Drawing show at the Met. Although both shows were really crowded both shows were really good. Just bring your patience. And the hot new find courtesy of my friend Mark Dutcher was his recommendation to have lunch at Cafe Sabarsky in the Neue Gallerie. It really did feel...

This Thursday you may want to head over to the Beall to enjoy all the art+technology+music you can handle. This Thursday from 6-9pm you'll be able to enjoy the FIVE(5) show while DJ J Dub spins live. All of this for no charge. Hope to see you there. ...

Miami is about to get into action. I'll post here and there interesting stuff I find. I'll try and cut through all the noise out there. And for those of you that don't really care, there will be some stuff to do locally this week. Stay tuned. ...

Well we made it back. New York was a blast but I'm glad to be home. Now I can thaw out. Too much to really go over and I don't want to bore you so I thought I'd provide some quick thoughts about the trip: 1. I really wanted to love the new MOMA. It still has the best collection anywhere but I would be lying if I didn't tell you it has issues. Many of which are better described here and here. Now I don't...

Heading out to NYC for lots art stuff so I think I'll be taking a break from the blog. Expect light posting if any at all. I'll be back at it next week. Happy Thanksgiving to all the loyal OC Art Blog readers!! I'm thankful for you. ...

Before Packing I ran over to Long Beach tonight to catch Eunkang Koh's show and then did a couple of studio visits with Jean Robison and Jeffrey Mohr. Some photos follow: Eunkang Koh Eunkang Koh Eunkang Hey, There's Walpa D' Mark I don't know who that is...

I had a dream last night that Richard Tuttle was watching football at my house and talking art. I must be looking forward to seeing his show next week at the Whitney. ...

One of the benefits of running an art space is you get to do a lot of studio visits. A couple days ago I ran over to Sherie' Franssen's studio in HB and just fell in love with her new work. You might remember Sherie' from her show last year at the Office. If you missed that one you'll get another shot to see some of her new work spring next year. Enjoy the one photo, more to come I'm sure. ...

While I'm trying to find out what's happening in OC this weekend I thought I'd let you know about the $99.99 show taking place this Sunday at the Irvine Fine Arts Center from 4-6pm. There will be a number great artists participating and half the proceeds go to the center. Remember, Carl Berg use to run this joint so I'm sure there will be some great art to be had. ...

Good read from Nikki Finke at the LA Weekly on the rise of Michael Ovitz as a top collector. Illustration by Miguel Valenzuela ...

I leave for NYC next week and the first thing on the agenda is definitely Mecca, otherwise known as the Museum everyone loves to hate. It'll be my first visit to the new digs. I usually take a lot of the armchair quaterbacking in stride when it comes to large institutions such as MOMA. It's a pretty easy target. I wouldn't wish that director role on anyone. You'll never make everybody happy. And besides, Saltz really liked Elizabeth Murray. Hard to take his word as gospel...

Volume 1 of Finishing School's latest project Open House is now complete. You can take the tour here. ...
