Ran down to the HB Art Center tonight to catch the Talking Heads show. Great show. If you are in the area get on down and take a look. Ran over to Boxed 2.1 at The Beall to catch KnifeandFork's 5 'til 12 exhibit before it came down. It had something to do with evolutionary algorithms & game theory but that stuff makes me think of math, and even though I'm officially in the tech industry, math sucks. Although there was one dude who talked about his sweet Honda Civic with flames that was pretty funny. Some bad photos follow: Mrs. OCArtBlog listening in. The Beall has great snacks....FYI.

Before I forget, next Thursday Greenleaf Gallery opens up Sacriluscious featuring an installation by Vandallister, the collaborative team comprised of the artists Jennifer Vandelpool and Jane Callister. The opening will run from 7-9pm and I'm sure it will be rocking.

Jocelyn Foye will be at it again this Sunday night. Starting at 7pm, Two grecco-roman style wrestlers will match for 6 minutes on a 12' diametered circular clay mat. Shown with the performance will be the mat that was created from the first match, made of latex and foam. The opening will run from 5-8pm and the match will start at 7pm. It will be held at the Gatov Gallery and the directions can be found here.

I spaced and forgot to let you all know that the Richard Pettibone retrospective opened at the Laguna Art Museum this weekend. The show will run to May 28th and it's not to be missed. It's party time again at the Beall this Thursday night as they kickoff Boxed 2.1. Sidenote:In honor of Ed's opening I posted an image of a painting he did that Michael Maas forwarded me. The painting is titled "pearls before swine" and its dated 1997. The opening will run from 6-9pm at the East & West galleries. This Thursday night the Surf Gallery will be opening up the Kevin Kroushinsky Fundraiser which will feature a silent auction that will include many surf art stars and there will be a performance by pro skater and great musician Ray Barbee. Side Note: There's also a great article on the legendary HB club Safari Sam's that took me down memory lane. The last time I was there, or at least remember being there a riot broke out after a D.I. show. Chairs were flying everywhere and lots of HB's finest showed up ready to pummel anyone in their way. ahhh....good times.

Looks like we have at least one opening this weekend. This Saturday night from 6 to 8:30pm Arden2 will open US Love Affair, an exhibition originally shaped as a reaction to the art community's lackadaisical attitude to the war in Iraq. US Love Affair will feature Stuart Bailey, Allie Bogle, Jonathan Hollingsworth, Robert Kozek, Joanna Szupinska, Brenna Youngblood, Jed Smith and DJ Synethete. The show will run through March 3rd.

Well I finally got around to watching How To Draw a Bunny the great documentary on the life and art of the most famous unknown artist Ray Johnson. This one gets the double snap approval rating. Lots of great cameo's by the likes of Chuck Close, Christo, Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist, etc. Ray Johnson was one interesting cat. Check it out now if you haven't seen it yet.
