Looks like OC has decided to get its public art groove on. Maybe some competition going on here? First Maya Lin at UCI and now tomorrow the Orange County Performing Arts Center will announce that it has commissioned Richard Serra to do his thing in the OC. Actually this is exciting to me. We are hitting the map so to speak. The LA Times has the whole story. ...

As a follow up to my John Waters @ OCMA post. I also wanted to let you know that running concurrently with that show will be the work of Swiss artist Fabrice Gygi. This show will run through March and it is open to the public starting on Sunday the 30th. Enjoy! The works of Swiss artist Fabrice Gygi take the form of site-specific installations, large-scale sculptures, and functional public structures that reference the often unnoticed architecture of authority in urban environments. Many of his...
Last year when we participated in artLA we had a booth next to Paul Kopeikin Gallery. So we got to spend the better part of the weekend hanging out with Paul. Both Mrs. OCArtBlog and I found him to be very friendly and funny. Unlike some insecure gallery people who will remain nameless. Anyway, I got an email from Paul about a benefit he is holding for his daughter's school and I feel compelled to spread the word. I'm sure there will be some quality photographs...

This Saturday night is the Opening party for the John Waters:Change of Life show that will run through Jan. 15th at OCMA. The party starts 8pm and costs $10 if you are not a member. I actually caught this show a year and a half back at The New Museum in NYC. It was great but I'm curious if they're going to edit it for the OC blue hairs. Do you think the butt-holes will still be included? I'll let you know. All the details for...
Mrs. OCArtBlog has decided it's time to get some new bedroom furniture (we have none) so this weekend I was required to do my husbandly duty and follow her around various furniture stores. Luckily one of our stops included Crystal Court at South Coast Plaza where OCMA has its new media satellite The Orange Lounge. I was able to view their new show Transfixed: New Media and the Body. The show includes artists like Cheryl Dunn, Tony Oursler and Yoshua Okon. But what I really...

Attended the Laguna Art Museum Annual Auction tonight and had a great time. It's always fun to watch the bidding wars. We won two out of the five or so we were in. We were happy to get the Mark Dutcher piece we had to have and the Leigh Peffer photograph we wanted. Fun was had by all. Some photos follow: Ali Smith and her work Michiko Yao and work Sherie' Franssen and her painting Artists Noah Thomas (L) Ali Smith and Jimi Gleason Jimi...
